Remembering Prada’s Fairy Collection

Diaphanous silk dresses printed with images of lithe fairies, checkered skirts and their matching tops, golden dresses rendered in lightweight leather–these are the things that Prada’s spring/summer 2008 collection were made of. The silk printed tunics and flared bottoms seemed to almost float down the runway. Their muted color palettes made everything seem surreal, with an Art Noveau twist. The bags–clutches with strips of colored leather bonded together, and tote and top handle models covered in images of distorted fairies–looked like they came out of new, earthy wonderland.

The fairies on the bags, dresses, pants, skirts and silk tops were drawn by Taiwanese artist James Jean, whose work is known for being whimsical. The artist also created an amazing short illustrated video as part of the campaign, dubbed Trembled Blossoms.
