Unexpected Style Icon: Sailor Moon’s Esmeraude

Even if you’ve never watched Sailor Moon before, you’ve likely come across the iconic characters at some point in time. Esmeraude is one Sailor Moon character who is a style icon.

With long lime-green flowing hair, a forest-green mini dress and a penchant for vintage inspired jewelry, Esmeraude’s sense of fashion is villainous in the best way possible.

Esmeraude, my favorite unexpected style icon quite possibly of the entire series, typically carries a red feathered fan and wears a large green stone pendant necklace with matching earrings. Her sense of style is intrinsic, as even her name relates back to the way she dresses. Esmeraude, after all, is supposedly related to “Emerald”.

At other times in the Sailor Moon series, Esmeraude is seen wearing everything from ankle-length purple coats, very ’90s black mini dresses with cropped red jackets and gold belts slung around the waist (very Moschino or Chanel). Of course, it’s her long lime green hair, sometimes worn with a chic vintage pillbox hat that really makes Esmeraude the unexpected style icon of Sailor Moon.
